When we step into our own home after a hard day, the hallway is the first place that greets us. And while we often spend hours choosing lighting for the living room, kitchen or bedroom, the hallway is unfairly left in the shadows – lit by some generic ceiling light that looks like it escaped from a waiting room in a clinic. Or worse – as if someone is about to ask us for our ID.

Our tips for a perfectly lit hallway:

• Combine different light sources – e.g. a pendant light in the center + wall lamps.
• Use warm white light (2700K – 3000K) for a cozy atmosphere.
• Play with shadows – the lighting doesn't have to be uniform, it should create depth.
• Don't be afraid of color! The hallway is an ideal place for lighting in gold, copper, dark blue or terracotta shades.

What about small hallways?

A smaller space doesn't mean you're limited to just a $12 LED panel. Instead        

• choose smaller pendants with character,
• set up targeted spots,
• use mirrors that spread light,
• add mini wall lamps with a warm tone.
